Oiling your Scalp for Hair Growth

Hey my loves,

Hope you are all fine and hope everyone is doing well. I decided to do this post on the importance of oiling our scalp just before the commencement of the hair growth challenge which shall be my next post. I intend oiling our scalp to be a key part of the challenge so I thought it is important that I do this post first.

Our hair produces sebum which is a substance that nourishes our hair follicles the sebum is supposed to travel throughout the entire hair shaft. However due to the curly/coily nature of our hair strands the sebum may not always be able to travel properly that is why some of us tend to have dry hair and dry/itchy scalps. If you suffer from this sort of dryness oiling your scalp might be just what you need for extra nourishment and hair growth.

When oiling your scalp however it is important to make sure you do not over oil your scalp as this can in effect clog your pores. There are many advantages to oiling your scalp it promotes hair growth and lubricates/moisturises the scalp; oiling your scalp can prevent dandruff and itchy/dry scalp, it also improves the overall health of your hair.

It is important that the oils you use are only natural oils such as Wura’s Secret Hair Growth Oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil and so on.

There are several ways to use oils for your hair:

The main ways where the oils are applied to your scalp are as follows:

As a scalp oil: You may choose to oil your scalp every day or every other day or as often as you feel your hair needs it.

As a scalp massage oil: You can apply an oil to your entire scalp, section by section and massage it in for about five minutes.

Other ways oils can be used include:

As a pre shampoo treatment: You can take any oil of your choice and apply it to your scalp and hair, cover with a plastic cap and leave for at least fifteen minutes, you can leave it in for longer or even overnight if possible.

As a hot oil treatment: Warm your choice of oil and apply to your scalp and hair, cover hair with a plastic cap and go underneath a steamer, hair dryer or you can even wrap a warm towel around your head for an at home treatment leave on for about 20 minutes or longer.

As a sealant: It is very important after moisturising your hair to seal it with an oil.

As a hair conditioner: You can condition your hair with an oil alone or some oils mixed together, simply apply the oil on your hair and scalp, cover with a plastic cap and leave on for your desired amount of time (about 20 minutes or longer) you can use with or without heat. Here is another recipe mix together some olive oil with an egg yolk (or the whole egg if you prefer) apply on your hair and cover with a plastic cap (do not apply heat) leave on for fifteen minutes and rinse off.

Watch out for my next post soon loves.

The Very Best Hair Tool - My Review of the Soft Hood Deluxe Hair Dryer Attachment by Hair Flair and Mini Hair Update

Hey loves, sorry I have been gone for quite some time now. I can truly say that I am back so please watch this space. My hair has undergone a lot of challenges towards the last few months as I had to deal with postpartum shedding and the results of a bad relaxer so I decided to take the plunge and cut off my hair some more. I intend to start focusing more on caring for my hair to get it back to where I want it to be. I am going to post my hair growth challenge pretty soon so please be on the lookout for it and I will encourage us all to participate, the rules will be simple as always.

To nurse my hair back to health I intend to start washing and deep conditioning it weekly as opposed to every two weeks. I am no longer going to be visiting salons but will do my hair at home. This brings me to the crux of it all as a working mum I do not have the time/energy for my hair to air dry the whole day or to do over night deep conditions. That is where this hair tool comes in – The Soft Hood Hair Dryer Attachment.

I have a black one, they also have a hot pink version if you prefer

I have had this product since last year but never got round to using it. Now that I am doing my hair at home however I decided to give it a go. I used this product as mechanical heat for my deep conditioning. The SoftHood is made by the same company which makes Curlformers.

Product Description

The new Deluxe SoftHood hair dryer attachment by Hair Flair provides a fast and convenient way to dry your hair and is the perfect accessory to use with your curlformers, rollers and velcros. Incorporating some unique, patented, design features for optimum performance, it has an adjustable chin strap and a side-located drawstring to ensure it stays securely in place and a larger hood capacity, which gives greater flexibility. It also has more ventilation holes for faster and even heat distribution. For best results, place the SoftHood over your curlformers or rollers and pull the drawstring to secure the hood around them. Fasten the chin strap and then attach the elasticated tube securely over the hair dryer nozzle. Switch the dryer on to a low or comfortable heat setting and leave until hair is dry. The time taken will vary depending on hair type, length and thickness. When dry, use the cool setting for 5 minutes or remove the SoftHood and allow your hair to cool before removing your curlformers for longer-lasting curls and waves. The SoftHood can also be used to process a conditioning treatment. Apply the treatment to damp hair then cover with a treatment cap and place the SoftHood over the top. Switch on the dryer to a comfortable heat setting and leave according to manufacturer's instructions before rinsing and styling for manageable glossy hair. Our Deluxe Softhood Hair Dryer Attachments will fit all hair dryers with a nozzle diameter of up to 5.5cm or 2.2 inches.

My Experience

After applying deep conditioner to my hair in sections, I covered my hair with a nylon/plastic bag and a shower cap and proceeded to deep condition. I put my blow dryer on the lowest setting and attached it to the SoftHood, and I was surprised to feel how well the heat circulated all over my head. It felt just like I was under a very comfortable hair dryer (I kid you not) – the heat was ideal as it was not too hot. I cannot believe how well this product worked the technology behind it is ingenious. I stayed underneath the SoftHood Hair Dryer Attachment for about 40 minutes. My hair felt so glorious afterwards. On where I purchased this product I see that it is rated Number 1 in Drying Hoods. Once you purchase it you do not need to invest in a steamer or a hair dryer to do your at home treatments.

All you need to use this product is a blow dryer – it is two products in one, a steamer and hair dryer.
It allows you to have a salon experience at home as you can use heat to condition and style your hair.
It allows you to do roller sets which is a form of indirect heat and a healthier option for our hair.
Your deep conditioning treatment can penetrate deeply into your hair as opposed to using body heat (and deep conditioning over night or several hours). I find that my hair feels better when I deep condition with mechanical heat as opposed to body heat.
It is reasonably priced; I got mine for about £14.50. Someone on described it as a hooded dryer for a fraction of the price and these words could not be truer.
It comes in a handy pouch that can be stored anywhere. It therefore travels easily and can be stored easily as well. I could not believe how well packaged it was.
The nozzle of the blow dryer fits snugly on the elasticated tube of the SoftHood and I found that it gives a very tight fit so that blow dryers do not slip out easily.

I am not sure if this product is available in Nigeria, I got mine on and I think you can get it on the curl formers website.

If you live in the US or the UK (or whichever part of the world it is sold) or you have someone who can bring it back for you I recommend that you buy this product.

Rating – 5/5 (Highly recommended)

Kindly share your experience with this product if you have used it or if it is something you would be willing to try? Also let me know if you have used a product similar to this which you recommend. If you do try out this product do let me know how it turns out.
